Curtains Close on League of Legends Season Two

It was early in the morning when the first enthusiastic League of
Legends fans turned out to line up for the World Finals at USC’s Galen
Center in Los Angeles, California. By the time the doors opened, fans
circled nearly the entire perimeter of the venue, ready to cheer on the
showdown between the Taipei Assassins and Korea’s Azubu Frost.

Nearly 8,000 anxious spectators watched the two championship contenders
square off. Before the match for the $1 million first-place prize
began, Phreak and Rivington hosted an hour-long pregame show featuring
an all-star game, trophy presentation, and orchestra performance. The
atmosphere was electric as djWheat introduced the teams and the Finals
got underway.

Triumph of the Underdogs

The final match between Azubu Frost and Taipei Assassins (TPA) was a
best-of-five series with the winner taking home the title of Season Two
World Champion and a $1 million grand prize.

TPA announced their presence with authority as the first game started,
but Azubu Frost turned the tables in mid-game with several impressive
team fight victories. MVP Rapidstar snowballed after multiple kills,
including a quadrakill as Karthus. Watching from the front row, Team
SoloMid’s Reginald commented, “TPA played phenomenal … and I felt that
they got complacent during the match.”

After dropping the first game of the match, TPA had to dig themselves
out of an early hole against a team that was heavily favored going into
the championship. They didn’t disappoint the huge number of fans they
acquired over the course of their impressive run, and soon the crowd was
boisterously cheering for the underdogs.

Between games, TPA’s manager, Erica Tseng, jokingly told me, “They play
better when they are hungry. That’s why I starve them before matches.”
Whatever her secret is, it paid off. TPA was certainly hungry to win,
and rallied to close out a commanding victory in their second game. With
the momentum swinging back in their favor, TPA managed to take the next
two games handily, winning the series three games to one.

Against all odds, the dark horse Assassins claimed the Season Two World Championship over Korea’s Azubu Frost.

The Summoner’s Cup, Motorcycles, and All the Foods

After a hard-earned victory, djWheat introduced the Taipei Assassins as
the Season Two World Champions. Co-Founders Marc Merrill and Brandon
Beck addressed the victors with heartfelt acknowledgements and awarded
them the Summoner’s Cup. TPA will be the second team to have their name
immortalized on the base of the Cup alongside Season One Champion Fnatic
MSI.

With a huge such a huge prize purse in hand, the press fished for
answers to the classic question: “What would you do with $1,000,000?”
Stanley and Lilballz each expressed their excitement at thoughts of
purchasing a new motorcycle. For others on the team, the only certainty
was some Taiwanese fine dining. Stanley stated, “I want to be like Bebe
and eat all the Taiwanese food.” Most importantly, the team will return
to Taiwan as heroes and ambassadors for eSports.

Congratulations to our Season Two World Champions, Taipei Assassins!
This patch, we’ll welcome a champion with a lot of history into the
League of Legends lineup: Elise, the Spider Queen. Originally concepted
over three years ago, Elise proved to be a challenging champion to fully
realize. Finally coming together as a transform champion, Elise has the
ability to assume the form of either a regal mage or a deadly spider
assassin.

Abilities (Human form):

Spider Swarm (Passive): Elise’s Human Form spells will ready a spiderling when cast on an enemy.

Neurotoxin: Elise damages a target based on its current Health.

Volatile Spiderling: Elise releases a venom-gorged spiderling that explodes when it nears a target.

Cocoon: Elise fires a skillshot that stuns the first enemy struck.

Spider Form: Elise transforms into a menacing spider with new
abilities. While in Spider Form, Elise deals magic bonus damage on
attack and has increased Movement Speed, Armor, and Magic Resistance.
Each level of her ultimate allows Elise to summon an additional
spiderling.

Abilities (Spider Form):

Spider Swarm (Passive):
Elise summons her spiderlings to fight by her side. Spiderlings deal
physical damage and take reduced damage from multi-target abilities.

Venomous Bite: Elise lunges forward and bites her target, slowing them and dealing bonus damage based on how low its Health is.

Skittering Frenzy: Elise and her spiderlings gain Attack Speed and heal her on each attack.

Rappel:

On enemy cast: Elise and her spiderlings ascend high into the air and descend upon an enemy target.

On ground cast: Elise and her spiderlings ascend high into the air,
becoming untargetable for two seconds. Casting Rappel on a nearby enemy
during this time will descend upon your target.

Human Form: Elise transforms into a human form with new
abilities. Each level of her ultimate allows Elise to summon an
additional spiderling.

Like all transform champions, successfully playing Elise involves
balancing two distinct kits. More than any of her counterparts, however,
the Spider Queen’s two forms embody distinct, but complimentary roles.
Unlike Jayce, whose kit emphasizes flowing smoothly between ranged and
melee skillsets, or Nidalee, who uses her cougar mobility to split push
and create distance for her long ranged attacks, Elise’s two ability
sets separate definitively into mage and assassin roles.

In her human mage form, Elise specializes in keeping her distance using
low-cooldown nukes and crowd control abilities. Her spells emphasize
wearing down high-health targets in preparation for a brutal finish in
spider form. At the heart of this gameplay is Neurotoxin which deals
damage based on the opponent’s current health. While in this form, she
also generates a spiderling each time she casts a spell. Upon
transformation into a spider, she summons these spiderlings to fight
alongside her. Investing the time to build up your minion count is
essential to performing a perfect assassination.

Once she’s switched to her spider assassin form, Elise’s kit takes on an
entirely different theme. She gains a number of bonuses to her melee
capabilities, and her spiderlings become active to help rapidly damage
an opponent. Using Rappel, she can ascend above the battlefield,
vanishing from sight and becoming untargetable for a short duration.
Once she’s suspended, she can lower herself upon a nearby target,
surrounding them with spiderlings. Boosting her minions’ Attack Speed
with Skittering Frenzy can quickly burst down a surrounded enemy,
leaving them vulnerable to execution with ¬Venomous Bite.

Using both spider and human form effectively is the key to making the
most out of the Spider Queen. Having the good judgment to stay safe in
your mage form while you fight to create the opportunity for a clean
spider kill will make or break your success on the Fields of Justice.
We’re excited to announce that a new version of Twisted Treeline is
about to hit PBE, with a live Beta soon to follow. We've heard your
feedback, and we’ve rebuilt Treeline to improve some of the areas you
suggested. Here’s a rundown of the major renovations to the map:

More viable team comps: the item shop on Twisted
Treeline now boasts an arsenal tailor-made to support every role in 3v3
combat, and the terrain has been modified to make blink champions easier
to hunt down

An improved jungle: We’ve replaced the random monsters with
new, reliable jungle camps, and removed most of the upper jungle to
focus the action towards the center where the jungler can gank both
lanes

Faster games: we widened the choke point outside each
inhibitor to prevent late game turtling and added a wall separating the
shrine turret from the Nexus to stop players from pulling super minions
into the laser beam

More awesome neutral objective: The Lizard Elder has been
replaced by two altars that can be claimed for a team-wide buff, and
Ebonmaw has been replaced by Vilemaw – an epic giant spider boss!

On their way to the Finals, Azubu Frost dominated every stage of the
tournament. After going 3 – 0 in the groupstage , they went on to knock
out North American champions and tournament favorites, Team SoloMid, 2 –
0. In the semi-finals, they faced Europe’s final remaining team,
Counter Logic Gaming EU, for a rematch of the Azubu The Champions Summer
finals.
Azubu Frost emerged victorious again, 2 – 1, moving on to face
an opponent they’ve never played before, Taipei Assassins.

Kings of the Garena Premier League, the Taipei Assassins pulled out two
upset victories. The first was over Korean favorite Najin Sword, who
went gone 3 – 0 in the groupstage but fell to the Taipei Assassins 2 –
0. Next, they faced European champions, Moscow Five, who have been
nearly undefeated at live events throughout the season and were expected
to make it to the finals. Moscow Five put on an impressive performance
in game one, but Taipei Assassins rallied, defeating Moscow Five in the
next two games and moving on to the World Finals.

Tournament: World Playoffs, Quarterfinal #3, Game 1
Teams: Azubu Frost vs. TSM
Date of Match: October 5
Date of Ruling: October 9
Subject: Unsportsmanlike Conduct

Chronology:

The game was paused to deal with audio/microphone malfunctions with the AzF headsets. During the pause:

TSM
Chaox said that he had witnessed a member of AzF looking at the venue
screens during the game. Referees didn't independently corroborate these
allegations.

TSM Dyrus looked back and up at the venue screens.

The match was then restarted as a result of AzF's inability to fully communicate in-game (mic malfunction). Prior to the restart, referees directed both teams to look forward at all times during the match.

After the restart, TSM left its base en masse, appearing to be invading top lane/brush. At 00:15 on the game clock, Woong of AzF looked back and up to his right at the venue screens. At 00:25 on the game clock, an AzF player pinged near the lane between TSM's top inhibitor tower and the second top lane tower.

AzF Shy (Jayce) and AzF MadLife (Blitzcrank) headed to top lane. AzF Shy (Jayce) approached the brush where TSM was headed to hide, switched to Cannon mode and fired his skillshot into the brush, landing a hit on TSM Dyrus (Darius), which gave away TSM Dyrus (Darius)' position. AzF Shy (Jayce) then backed away.

Once AzF had confirmed that Darius was top lane with Jayce's skillshot:

AzF
sent two players deep into TSM's red jungle to drop a sapling at wraith
camp, which would ordinarily be a dangerous risk for only two players.

AzF Woong (Miss Fortune) facechecked bottom lane¢s tribrush, which
would have been an extremely risky move had he not known that the lane
was likely unoccupied by TSM. AzF Woong (Miss Fortune) did not even cast
“Make it Rain” to reveal the brush, indicating a high level of
confidence that the brush was uncontested.

Relevant Competition Rule(s):

1. The World Championship Competition Rules, Paragraph 9.1, prohibit unsportsmanlike behavior.

a. Penalties, as set forth in Paragraph 9.2, include, without limitation:

i. Verbal Warning
ii. Prize Money Deduction

1. Minor infraction: 5% of World Championship prize money
2. Major infraction: 20% of World Championship prize money

iii. Loss of Side Selection
iv. Game Forfeiture
v. Tournament Disqualification

2. Prior to the game, referees directed both teams to look forward at all times during the match.

Analysis:

TSM Dyrus clearly turned his head to his left and looked back and upward at the venue screen, but there is no direct evidence that TSM Dyrus obtained any helpful information from this action. TSM obtained no direct meaningful benefits from TSM Dyrus' action; the game was restarted afterward.

TSM Chaox briefly turned his head toward the AzF team to monitor them. This violation had no potential or actual gameplay benefits for TSM.

AzF Woong clearly turned his head to his right and looked back and upward at the venue screens. The potential gains from this action were not inconsequential. At 00:15 into the restarted game, AzF had no idea where TSM was located or which direction they were headed. AzF did not have Clairvoyance. By looking at the venue screens, AzF Woong stood to learn the location of all TSM champions.AzF Woong's actions did yield tangible benefits for AzF. Once AzF learned that all five members of TSM were in the top lane area, this reduced TSM's ability to control top lane and pressure AzF's blue side. It also allowed AzF to more safely invade TSM's red side.

Rulings:

TSM Chaox did not look forward at all times during the game. This was not unsportsmanlike conduct.

TSM Dyrus violated the rules by looking at the stage screens. This
violation, however, did not yield any meaningful benefits for TSM.

AzF Woong violated the rules by looking at the stage screens. His
actions yielded benefits for AzF in the game. Other members of AzF
modified their gameplay based upon the information.

Penalties:

TSM Chaox: None.

TSM Dyrus is hereby warned not to engage in any further rule violations. Further violations may result in additional penalties.

AzF Woong committed a major infraction of the rules and the team is hereby collectively fined in the amount of 20% of the prize winnings earned by AzF as a result of advancing into the Semifinals ($150,000). AzF's total fine for this violation is $30,000. Further violations may result in additional penalties.

We've completed a comprehensive investigation of all alleged incidents
of players looking at the venue screen at the World Playoffs. Our full
rulings are posted by bitingpig below, but here's the tl;dr:

We evaluated these cases based on intent, severity and tangible impact
to the course of the game.
Based on our investigation, the Azubu Frost
incident is the only one where we determined there to be tangible impact
– we believe other members of AzF modified their gameplay (level 1 ping
and Jayce brush check) based upon the information gained. We don't
believe, however, that these actions decided the winner of the game.

Per our rules we are issuing a fine of $30,000* for unsportsmanlike conduct. Proceeds will go to our charity program in Korea.

Here are summaries of our findings on the other incidents:

Quarterfinal #4, Game 3 (CLG.EU v. Team WE) at 19:24 on the
game clock – WE WeiXiao looked up at the venue screen. Practical
benefits to Team WE were limited - Corki's moves after WeiXiao's look
would have been logical, whether he saw Sona's position on the venue
screens or not. We have determined this to be unsportsmanlike and have
issued a warning.

Group Stage A (IG v. SK) at 13:00 on the game clock – iG Zz1tai
looked over his right shoulder at the screens. From our analysis, there
was no material impact to the game. We have determined this to be
unsportsmanlike and have issued a warning.

Quarterfinal #3, (restarted) Game 1 (AZF v. TSM) during game pause –
TSM Dyrus turned his head to determine whether it was feasible to see
the minimap screens from the stage. TSM obtained no direct meaningful
benefits from Dyrus¢ action as the game was restarted, but we have
issued a warning.

Quarterfinal #2, Game 1 (TPA v. NaJin Sword) at 4:11 on the game
clock - TPA Stanley briefly looked to his left, then looked forward and
adjusted his monitor. We've determined he was responding to glare
issues. The position of all five players of NaJin Sword was already
visible to TPA at this time. While Stanley violated the referee¢s
instructions to look forward at all times, there was no unsportsmanlike
conduct.

*20% of current tournament winnings.

We take this stuff seriously. Our rules on sportsmanlike conduct are
clearly communicated to competitors, and our decisions here are based on
those rules. More importantly, this sort of behavior shouldn't have
been possible in the first place, and we recognize that and have taken
steps to ensure it doesn't happen in the future.

Welcome to this week’s Pro Player Pick, where we feature one of League
of Legends’ best players elaborating on his champion of choice.

Today, Scarra from Team Dignitas picks Katarina. Scarra relishes the
intense cleanup potential granted by Voracity, Katarina’s
cooldown-resetting passive.
Her aggressive gameplay requires in-depth
knowledge of enemy abilities, so she’s a challenging champion to keep
alive throughout early game. But Scarra believes that Katarina is
ultimately rewarding to play with her huge potential for heart-stopping
multikills.

Check out the video to learn more about why Katarina captured Scarra’s Pro Player Pick!
It’s been over one week since we launched the Honor Initiative, one
of the largest experiments ever conducted at Riot. Today, I’d like to
take some time to share a few results we’ve seen, and talk a little more
about how we’re preventing Honor spamming.

Honor So Far

As I mentioned before, we’ve historically reacted only to toxic behavior
through systems like the Tribunal, and the Honor Initiative was our
first attempt at positive reinforcement in League of Legends.

The Honor Initiative is a multi-phase experiment, and in the first
phase, our goal is to see if we’re able to accurately identify the
positive pillars of our community. Secondly, we hope to see if it’s
possible to positively nudge “neutral” players by making it easier to be
good instead of toxic. Already, we’ve seen some dramatic, global
results in normal and ranked solo queue reports the past week:

Negative Attitude reports: -29% in normals and -11% in ranked

Offensive Language reports: -35% in normals and -20% in ranked

Verbal Abuse reports: -41% in normals -17% in ranked

Preventing Honor Abuse

One of the major concerns we took into account when designing Honor was
abuse – it’s obvious this was a concern some of you shared: “Dr. Lyte,
people are going to trade Honor! This is going to be meaningless!” Rest
assured, Riot has spent a lot of extra time implementing anti-abuse
features into the Honor Initiative. We tasked nearly half a dozen PhDs
and statisticians to this problem and let them tinker with models for
weeks. What did they come up with, and what’s going on in the
background?

Pattern recognition: Honor was designed to recognize
patterns. For example, Honorable players who are true positive should
not be reported very often.

As an example, the system caught a
player who was reported in 100% of his games after Honor launched, but
he also got Honor in nearly every game. This obvious trader was caught.

Social interactions: Honor was designed to analyze
interactions between players. For example, the system analyzes the
players who are Honoring you and the players you give Honor to in an
effort to determine the quality of these exchanges.

In another
example, the system caught a player who received 100% of his Honor from a
premade friend. Both the giver and the recipient were also toxic
players and both were punished for this behavior.

Honor values: As mentioned above, Honor assesses the value of
your exchanges. Receiving Honor from a stranger you’ve never played
with before is valued more than Honor from a player who has played with
you 100 times and Honored you multiple times. Design decisions like this
were made to encourage players to be positive across a large number of
games with a large variety of people—in fact, for the min-maxers, this
is the optimal way to earn Honor.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and want to thank all of you for your patience.

Day two saw the regional finalists compete against the best of Group A and B, and saw the hopes of one region go home.

M5 BenQ vs Invictus Gaming

Moscow Five once again demonstrated spectacular team fight ability and
put on a dominating performance. Even when they were losing – sometimes
significantly – they were able to control their team fights and earn
comebacks.
Falling behind in both games, Moscow Five forced engagements
across the map at multiple objectives. Despite heavy pressure on Darien
in lane and failed ganks, superior positioning in team fights allowed M5
BenQ to take back control in games one and two.

The stars of the matches were M5 BenQ¢s duo, Genja and GoZu Pepper.
Picking the vulnerable but powerful late-game champion Kog¢Maw in both
matches, Genja took leads in lane due in large part to the aggression of
GoZu Pepper. After Sona and Nunu bans in game one, GoZu Pepper ran
support Zyra instead, locking down iG¢s entire team with his ultimate
and securing kills for the rest of his team.

NaJin Sword vs. Taipei Assassins

Coming off their amazing sweep performance in Group B, NaJin Sword
seemed poised to upset the Southeast Asian champions, Taipei Assassins.
Almost immediately, however, TPA showed exactly how they earned their
seeded position. They dictated the first game of the match from
beginning to end, starting off in style by picking up first blood before
minions even spawned. Once the team fights started in that match, it
was really TPA¢s show.

Even in the second game of the match, where NaJin Sword managed to take
an early kill lead, TPA stacked gold generation items and stabilized the
game. TPA's pull strategy with Blitzcrank and Skarner faced an
unfavorable team comp in Sword's three strong initiators that almost
wanted to get pulled in: Morgana, Jax, and Maokai. Taipei Assassins,
however, still managed to make it happen. They pulled smart, and set up
some great hooks over terrain that was hard for NaJin Sword to cross,
allowing them to break up fights and waste Sword's strong initiations.
Taipei Assassins picked up an impressive sweep over Korean favorites
NaJin Sword.

Team Solo Mid vs. Azubu Frost

The first game of this matchup was probably the most white-knuckle game
of the tournament. TSM simply showed incredible tenacity, and proved
hard to put down. Despite being at a significant disadvantage, Reginald
on Karthus started Flash-initiating fights with Wall of Pain, and Dyrus,
started making plays in spite of early game punishment. In the end,
however, Azubu Frost proved just too reliable a team. Knowing they
couldn¢t stop TSM¢s first Baron attempt, Frost traded the Baron for an
inhibitor. This put TSM in an uncomfortable position, ultimately forcing
them to pick a little bit of a disadvantageous fight before Baron buff
expired. The 4 – 2 fight allowed Frost to clean up SoloMid¢s base and
ultimately win the game.

In the second match, TSM got off to a great aggressive start, this time
taking a kill lead of their own. But once Azubu Frost hit their stride,
they really took charge of the game. CloudTemplar on Skarner seemed to
be all over the map, dragging Team SoloMid members to their deaths every
time his ultimate was ready. Frost closed the massive gold gap of the
early game by repeatedly out-fighting TSM in team situations. Frost's
positioning was near-perfect in every fight, and after taking Baron,
they quickly eliminated Team SoloMid from the tournament, closing the
doors on any chance of a North American finals.

Tomorrow starts with the last quarter final match, CLG EU vs Team WE,
followed by the semi-final matches to determine who will move on to the
World Championship Finals. Head to our official website for live stream coverage!

For the first round of the World Playoffs, eight teams faced off in two
groups for a chance to move on to the quarter finals against the seeded
teams Team SoloMid, Moscow Five, Team WE, and Taipei Assassins. With
only half of the teams advancing today, every match was a battle for
tournament survival, and the best-of-one format meant there were no
second chances.

Group A

In the first Group, Azubu Frost, Invictus Gaming, Counter Logic Gaming
NA, and SK Gaming were all thrust into the arena. The first game was an
explosive back and forth between Azubu Frost and Invictus Gaming.
Invictus scored an early lead over Frost and managed to hold onto it for
the entire first half of the game. However, a disastrous Baron fight
for them resulted in Frost pulling off a steal to take the lead with
minimal losses. By picking hard-scaling champions like Jax, Frost was
able to last until their late-game power kicked in and turned the match
around.

The second highlight match of the group featured SK Gaming and CLG NA,
who were each down one game after losses to Frost and iG respectively.
Both teams went for global map presence, with SK picking up Shen while
CLG NA ran three Teleport spells. After a sneaky Baron kill, SK Gaming
attempted to kick in the door on CLG¢s mid. This opened a window of
opportunity for Doublelift to split-push with a promoted minion while
his team held the line. Suddenly, the base race was on! Despite SK
having the Baron buff in their favor, it became quickly apparent that
CLG was in the lead as SK attempted to Recall and defend. A few quick
teleports from CLG NA brought the game to a white-knuckle finish.

Despite their impressive second game, neither CLG NA nor SK Gaming were
able to advance past the group stage. Azubu Frost would draw TSM in the
next round, while Invictus drew Moscow Five.

Group B

NaJin Sword, Counter Logic Gaming Europe, Saigon Jokers, and Dignitas
made up the second group of the day, and the evening games were just as
fierce as the morning. Saigon Jokers put on an impressive performance in
their first match against NaJin Sword, but like the Frost vs. iG match,
Sword managed to draw the game out until their superior late-game comp
won them the match. The rest of the group seemed like a warm up for
Sword as they rolled through Dignitas and CLG EU in quick games. Maknoon
clearly earned the award for MVP of the day for his unbeatable
performance in top lane.

Counter Logic Gaming Europe also advanced to the quarterfinals after
routing the Saigon Jokers. While the Jokers performed well in their
match against NaJin Sword and had scored an upset victory over Dignitas,
CLG EU was able to seize an advantage early on in their match. From
there, they were able to snowball to victory, choosing to engage their
opponents only when they had a huge advantage. NaJin Sword moves on to
face Taipei Assassins tomorrow, while CLG EU will do battle with Team
WE.

The action starts up again at 12 PM PST with Moscow Five vs. iG in the quarter finals. Check out our official website to watch all the matches streamed live.
Home to a massive local eSports scene, China sends its two best teams, World Elite and Invictus Gaming, to Los Angeles to prove they can win once again in an international tournament. Competing as a professional player in China means attending live events throughout the country where thousands of players come to compete.
In addition, both of the teams headed to the World Championship have had international exposure, competing in the Challenger Circuit, Korea's Azubu The Champions, and Southeast Asian events. Hundreds of thousands of fans will be watching as the Chinese teams hope to prove themselves to the rest of the world.
By far the most famous team from China, World Elite rose to prominence
after their victory at the Intel Extreme Masters Guangzhou last year
over teams like CLG.na and SK Gaming. The team went on to compete in the
second season of Azubu The Champions, yet were knocked out by eventual
second place finishers CLG.EU. The team has undergone several roster
swaps since, and in their most recent showing at IPL Face Off, the team
was only able to score fifth overall. World Elite qualified for the
Season Two World Championships by having the highest rank on the Chinese
circuit, far outpacing their closest rival Invictus Gaming. Their star
AP Carry, Misaya, has been with the team since its inception, and the
team will rely on his leadership in order to pull out a win in Los
Angeles.
Southeast Asia's two best teams emerged from Garena's newest professional eSports circuit, the Garena Premier League. Like the upcoming Season Three Championship Series, the Garena Premier League features eight professional teams from around Southeast Asia. GPL teams are made up of highly skilled and dedicated players, all of whom play League of Legends full time.
From the two qualifying events, one in Taipei, the other in Da Nang, two teams, the local favorites, emerged victorious: The Taipei Assassins and the Saigon Jokers.

For dedicated eSports fans, Taipei Assassins are known as a team often cited as one of the strongest in the world, despite having not played in any challenger circuit events this year. Taipei Assassins spent most of this year completely dominating the Garena Premier League, with a current record of 29-2. Long-time followers of high-Elo League of Legends players will recognize star players MiStaKe and Lilballz, both of whom were commonly seen on the top of the North American ladder during Season One, and Lilballz was even once a member of Counter Logic Gaming NA. Taipei Assassins brings with them the confidence of having completely dominated an entire region throughout Season Two.

Despite being the most recent region brought to League of Legends, Korea
has a long history of elite eSports competition. Soon after launch in
December 2011, gaming houses sprang up around Seoul and two leagues were
being broadcast on Korean television. The premier series, OGN¢s Azubu
The Champions, rapidly became the most watched eSports show in the
country.

Korea had two paths to the Season Two Championships; getting the highest
results in the first two seasons of Azubu The Champions, and winning
the regional event. After a 2nd Place in the first season of Azubu The
Champions and 1st in the second, Azubu Frost emerged as Korea¢s premier
team. At the Regional final, second seed Najin Sword scored an upset
victory over Azubu The Champions season one winner Azubu Blaze, securing
their team a spot at the world championship.

Azubu Frost

When the twin Azubu teams Frost and Blaze were formed, Frost was considered the stronger of the two. After their loss to Blaze at the spring finals of Azubu The Champions and the departure of star player Locodoco, some thought the team was no longer a top contender. Frost quickly proved doubters wrong, winning over Counter Logic Gaming Europe in the finals 3-2. Like other Korean teams, Frost is known for their ultra-aggressive push strategies and lane swaps, taking outer turrets as rapidly as possible to force early teamfights and 4-player ganks. Their victories over other Korean teams, which many believe to be currently the most competitive region, as well as Europe's CLG.eu, makes this team a favorite to win the tournament.
